Traditional Christian theology evolved in a world-view of two millennia ago; it is rightly regarded as inspirational in that context. But we now live in a vastly different contemporary world, so different that the ancient doctrines seem to many as inadequate, unconvincing, if not irrelevant. The theme of this book is the need to re-interpret the traditional expressions of faith. What is the centerpiece of the Good News, and how does it relate to the contemporary world? Is it perhaps that love is not just an admirable human moral value, but is actually enabled by the gift of a Divine Presence in all people, which empowers us to love? It is in our response to that extraordinary gift in relationships and social justice that the world can be changed. This requires us to look again at the traditional meanings of incarnation, atonement, resurrection, creation, etc. The studies conclude with a particular characteristic of love. viz. its inclusiveness, and three examples are chosen the inter-faith debate, partner relationships outside marriage, and homosexuality.
