Suggestions for group discussion
This study guide has been prepared for use in conjunction with the book, One in the Gospel: The Formula of Concord for our Day, by Dr Friedemann Hebart, third revised & updated edition.
The questions and topics for discussion in this study guide relate to individual chapters of the book which should be read beforehand.
Please note that more questions and topics on each chapter have been included than could normally be dealt with in a single group study session. This enables the group and/or the group leader to choose in advance those sections for a chapter of the book which link up more closely with the interests and concerns of the group as a whole. This applies especially where the group study is planned for a limited number of sessions.
Specific quotations listed for discussion need to be treated in the context in which they stand.
While the points for discussion refer initially to Lutherans and the Lutheran church, they do so in a broader Christian context and relate to similar questions and issues facing other Christian denominations today.
This study guide is a modified version of the one which first appeared together with the first edition of One in the Gospel, originally compiled by the Revd. David Strelan.
